Paper modelers gather at IPMS meeting.

Friday evening 8/16/19 Pablo “Wire & Paper” joined us Paper Modeling Folk for the first time at the California IPMS Orange County Chapter meeting and competition.

Pablo placed into competition an absolutely outstanding highly detailed “Green” ship.
I kept busy pointing out to the plastic club members that Pablo’s ship was paper! Unbelievable!

David Okamura had several paper model competition and displays including his ships in a number of scales.

Jim Nunn showed several Kartonowy Arsenal kits for the members and visitors to analyze.

Meeting Pablo and seeing his craftsmanship was lots of fun.
Sadly, due to the hotel’s air-conditioning not working, floor fans were brought in and aimed at the competition table. My little 4 and 3/4 inch Manila Dory took off, flew across the table and wiped two antennas off one of the plastic competition models. The modeler was almost explosive. This did not help my paper modeling participation.

Thanks for this report and for the image of the four of you, Bob.

I enjoyed seeing the models. Of course, we saw your fine little "Manila Dinghy" recently. Pablo's "Green Dragon" APD fast transport in the Measure 31/L amphibious scheme looks great. I remember some years ago when David was building the Digital Navy minesweeper in smaller and smaller scales.

It is too bad about the fan-and-dinghy incident, but it looks as if it was nonetheless a good event.

Great photos, Bob!

Since I knew Pablo likes 1:400 scale ships, I brought some of my miniature fleet. The Digital Navy USS Caravan minesweeper is in 1:1200, 1:700, 1:400 and original 1:250 scale, next to Fabrizio Prudenziati's 1:400 scale Graf Spee -- probably the first time the Spee's been out of its storage box in nearly 15 years.

It was a very good meeting. Pablo (aka "wireandpaper") does amazing work in 1:400, and you really need to see them up close to fully appreciate his craftsmanship.

So, what you are saying is: we must replace Rock with Plastic?

Paper, Plastic, Scissors.
Paper flying-dropkicks Plastic.

i wonder what this other modeler's response would have been, if a sheet of paper would have "taken out" those two antennae?

Thanks for the report. Do you still meet at the La Quinta down by La Mirada? Used to belong when I lived out there and the meetings were at the bank (savings & loan) in Placentia or Brea. Did attend a few meetings when my friend, Don Drummer, was still alive and I'd be over to see him and hit a car show or two.

I had a very good time among the masters.
Thank you David and Bob for inviting me, and thank you Jim for all the good tips on making paper tubes/cylinders.
Very well impressed whit their skills.
David also had an impressive post WWI British Dirigible!!!
I didn't tell the pl@$+( guys that I am a recovery p. addict nor I told them that if the scale is not correct or you damage a little part, print another!

ps This may change with 3D printers.
