ZOOM meeting - International

The Texas-focused ZOOM meeting quickly evolved into something much broader, so I am starting a new thread with a more accurate subject/title line.

Kevin WS and I had a meeting with just the two of us a couple of weeks ago.

I have sent out invitations, to those who showed interest, for another meeting tomorrow, using ZOOM.

The agenda for now is:
1. Introductions
2. Current projects
3. Subjects of interest - tomorrow, we'll start with the tools we use, and see where we end up.

I'll post my comments afterwards. The others are invited to do likewise.
Wayne

The second Paper Modelers ZOOM meeting was held this (Friday 5 June).
Attendees were Waynemc, Thales, Willard11, Texman, and Kevin W-S.

After introductions, we shared our current projects. There were spacecraft, birds, and ships. Seeing the models in the hands of the makers put them into scale better than a photo of just the model on a flat surface.

The meeting topic was TOOLS. Everyone showed their favorite knives and cutters. We also discussed methods of coloring edges and bending/rolling without wrinkling or crimping the paper. Use of spray varnishes were also discussed.

We discussed having a series of "how-to" sessions and recording them, possibly for YouTube.

I will start the scheduling process earlier next time. With that thought in mind, I ask that newcomers PM me or email me with their Paper Modelers ID, their name, email address, time zone and preferred days and hours for these meetings. I will try to schedule the meeting to accommodate the greatest number of us.

If I left out anything important, reply to add it.

Wayne

Thanks, Wayne. You covered everything well.

And thank you to the others as well for attending and making it such an enjoyable session...

Your time was appreciated.

Here's a link to the Scale Colour post I mentioned when we were discussing the topic.

Thanks, Wayne. It was a great Zoom meeting for me.

I learned a lot and got to talk with other paper modelers.

I would encourage anyone interested to participate in future Zoom meetings.

Looking forward to the next one.

I took photos of the tools I talked about in the Zoom meeting. The photos are; an overview of all the tools, close-up of the tools I use most often, and a close-up of the tip with ridges. I have some tools with ridges I bought working on N-scale model trains, but I try not to use them with paper models as the ridges may transfer to the parts.

The long, thin white object in the upper left of the overview photo is a set of styrene rods/tubes used to form tubes. I store them by sliding smaller tubes in larger diameter tubes.

These are basic tools for paper modeling. The other modelers displayed some unique tools and maybe they will post photos of them.

Thank you for the pictures! Appreciated.

I will do the tools I showed tomorrow.

Meanwhile here are the Dak pics I talked about when we discussed colours.

First the official scheme - as meant to be and used by modellers, artists and rivet counters. British Standard 381C 450 and 641 (Dark earth and dark green respectively).

Over 8 years I never saw a Dak in those colours!!!!

They always looked like this (the real things) in active service!

A Dak on standby... Note the rough effort to comply, sort of, to the official layout above!

3 Daks sporting the all same colour scheme (?!) in flight.

Engine close up.

For the next ZOOMing (ZOOM meeting), would all interested please post here:
- your name,
- Paper Modelers ID,
- Time Zone,
- and what days and hours you would prefer we meet.

I expect the next meeting to be several days in the future, maybe between next Friday and next Tuesday. We don't yet have a fixed schedule and we can be flexible. Most of us are in the US, but one is in South Africa. We welcome international participation.

In the previous ZOOMing, we agreed that some "How-To"'s would be a useful group project, that might be recorded for viewing by others, perhaps posted to YouTube or some similar platform. Feel free to request "How-To" subjects and volunteers are also appreciated.
