Little Rock AFB 65th Anniversary

Oct 8, 1965, the gates to Little Rock AFB were opened. The base has served as a SAC base with B-47s,
a Titan II missile base, and host to various cargo aircraft.

As our annual airshow was cancelled, the base leadership decided to have a small celebration,
very limited in scope. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend.

The day began with an "aerial review". This was a training formation, utilizing the bases heritage
scheme painted C-130s, lead by a C-47. The C-47 joined the formation about a mile north of my
position, and I did not get any pics of it in flight. Here, are the pics of the heritage schemes I got.

C-47

Once on the flightline, they had the heritage painted aircraft (which fly daily) at the end of the ramp. My wife and I proceeded to park, and started exploring.

First was the C-47. This aircraft is seen at many airshows.

Here is the next scheme. I have the information boards included
so you can read about the scheme and its significance.

The Four Horsemen

It took me a minute to recognize this scheme, the only C-130
demonstration team.

I'm half tempted to design a C-130 so I can have those schemes. I've always liked heritage schemes.

First time I have noticed - what is the purpose of the two protrusions ahead of the tail on the yellow-tailed one. They seem too high on the fuselage to have anything to do with MAFFS. Just curious.

Regards,
John
