The 2021 International Paper Modeler's Convention Visit in Pictures and Words

'Ello, fellow paperphiles,

I was able to attend this year's IPMC this last Saturday. Not an easy trip but it was well worth it.

I'd like to take you through a tour over the next several posts where I'll introduce visit-pics, some interesting characters (who play in paper, but are not made of it), and interesting comments by exhibitors that might provide valuable building tips.

I hope the photo-journalistic tour helps those who wanted to go, but missed it, and to encourage others who haven't attended yet, to consider it in the future (maybe even next year!).

Its nice to meet those who are hidden behind the avatars...and learn the "layers" of experience...one page at a time...

I have held off posting until i get a message back from the Administrator.

The image above posted sideways, even though it was not taken that way, nor shows up like that in my images section when downloaded.

Just based on experience, high resolution photos usually go topsy-turvy. Most modern phone cameras take pics in the 3000+ pixel range. I set my phone to take lower resolution images, about 1500 px, and the site seems to like those. For existing images, I usually pop them into mspaint and resize the image to 30% or so.

I did use high resolution on the pics. Maybe that is the problem.

It’s sideways in the thumbnail, but displays correctly when clicked on. At least for me.

As Ann says, the photo appears correctly when viewed.
Only the thumbnail is sideways.

Don't listen to Aaron.(lol)
Always shoot at the best/highest resolution you can.
This allows for better photos, better prints, and...
if you need to crop or edit the photo, you've got the biggest and best image to work with.

Do what I do...shoot at top quality and save those for future reference.
Run the required pics through a simple editor for web use.

I use a free software called Fotosizer.
Its great and simple and free! Did I mention free?.

You can choose a preset size or custom size and resize your photos for better web use.
It won't delete your original...just adds an altered copy.
There are plenty of additional optional settings like:
reduce quality, change output resolution and dpi, remove background info like EXIF.
All these things will drastically reduce the file size of the image.

You can drop as many photos as you like in and adjust them all at once (batch editing)

I don't use any of the optional settings, just the resize...
and a 5mb photo is quickly reduced to less than 1mb.
But visual quality is almost as good...in fact its usually hard to tell the difference.
Make sure to go in and uncheck things or you could reduce the visual quality drastically!

I reduce size of photos to 800px x 600px if its for inline posting.
These pics have to be stored somewhere online though.
Attachments I like to leave bigger...at least 1200px wide (1600px is even better)
...gives the forum users a decent photo to look at.

I appreciate the feedback! When I view what I posted it comes up sideways, even after adjusting the size. But if its working for you, that's good enough for me. I gathered the stuff for you anyway!

Dave: I may have to hunt that down. I'm researching a new computer; exploring a PC loaded with Linux to replace my Mac. I have loved my old Mac but I am quite disappointed with the newer models; just not the quality of yesteryear. I'm not wanting to go with a Windows system for similar reasons!
