Thank-you Barry! Not too far yet, but the lines of this old ship are very nice.

Looks like a good shape for your hull.

started covering, this model has a collection of skin parts to form the shape which is covered by horizontal card. I'm trying to "plank" over the skin and sand down to get eventually a smooth hull, just by using paper. May need to add additional layers, but this is making the hull very strong, too.

Very illuminating. Are you treating the surface with anything to help with the sanding process?

Chris,so far have been working with just white glue. the problem with this is the distortion mentioned by others that occurs, but if the layers are dry, then additional glue and paper doesn't cause much distortion. I was thinking I might have to use some filler, but I don't think I will as 2 layers of card so far is quite a bit to work with for sanding. I cut a whole lot of card strips with a paper cutter and I can fairly quickly glue another layer, cross diagonal to the last and give even more strength, but I'm thinking I dont need it. the whole piece feels like a block of balsa now, it's so stiff. It isn't at all heavy, and should be fairly puncture resistant.
