Thank you Don! Douglas, the Cleopatra has quite a few cannon if you count the swivel guns, 12 of those 10 small cannon (nines?) and 26 larger cannon (12 or 14 pounders I'd guess, would be nice if I could read Polish). I'm still working on getting them closer to the right shape for the size, the proto is not right:(, but at least I know I can do it without purchasing them..I like your car frame by the way, very nice building! Lots of builds going on I guess Rick is on to something....

Your welcome & thank-you. This may help with the cannon modeling situation. PM me for a clearer PDF version if you like.

Thanks Douglas that does help. Does anyone know the poundage on these guns for sure?

Glen, that's great! Bookmarked for further study! Fantastic reference for the build! The Granado kit sure builds into a beautiful model (in the right hands, I'm sure). Those cannon look like a job in themselves. But with my limited experience, it looks like I should probably try a couple of simpler ship kits first. I have a number of Maly Modelarz kits, so maybe I'll work my way up through them first??
many thanks, Chris |

The Granado is unusual having mortars for artillery. I think this was a bomb ketch or brig. Someone may need to clarify. I think for a build is about the same as Cleopatra probably.

I can't see the pictures at the katonowe site and don't have my maritime references available (I'm working at the Military History Institute Reading Room -- lots of references on Army stuff; a little thin on maritime material), but my understanding is that a bomb ketch would normally have no foremast and minimum rigging forward of the main mast to allow a relatively unimpeded field of fire for the mortar. Of course, most of the rest of the construction of such a vessel would be quite applicable to Cleopatra and other Napoleonic era warships, I presume.
This site concerns the construction of a wooden model of HMS Granado and it has no foremast: JoTiKa Ltd. ~ HM Bomb Vessel Granado Construction Page 10. Don |
