I'm continuing by building out of sequence and only doing the parts and assemblies I'm fairly sure of. The kit builds from the ground to the roof, but the assemblies in the center section, particularly the sides, are still unclear to me.
So what I've got so far is the complete chassis, the complete roof and some of the basic "house" section. All of the inset windows are done, glazed and shuttered.

It's coming along well enough and I like the look of it, but I'm just about to run out of the parts I understand. I'm reminded of the story told in "the Magnificent Seven". Something about a fella who fell out of a ten story building. People on each floor heard him say as he fell past, "So far, so good."

So far, so good.

Progressing slowly, but I think I may have gotten past the worst of it.

This side piece was one of the more difficult to make heads or tails of in the diagram. I finally figured out that it had to be doubled over. I've glued the wall section to the chassis and the railing sections as well.

I'm doing what detail work there is as well, such as these four lamps.
I am feeling like it's going to come together rather than end up in the trash. Due to my building out of sequence, I've had to cut a few tabs off here and there to make things come together and there are a few crooked pieces that I doubt I will be able to straighten. There's still plenty of work to do, but I think I've sorted out the most confusing bits.

I need to try and get more time in on this to finish it off so I can jump onto Nando's Nautilus!

I found a little time and actually got this one finished! I wound up with a few extra pieces, none of which were shown in the diagram and I cannot figure out where they would have gone. The alignment on the sides and posts was most challenging. And while there are a few imperfect lines and klunky joints (all my fault, not the designer's), the overall effect is quite satisfying to me. So much so that I may be inspired to read the Verne novel again.
There's no illustration as to how the Steam Elephant hooks up to the Steam House, so I just used some jewelry chain through the spreader bar.
This was definitely a No Joy or Comfort build for me, but I'm very glad I did it. It was a good move to try something a little ambitious outside my comfort zone, even if it did take me a couple more years to finish than I expected!

Looks absolutely fantastic.. Will definitely have to finish mine one of these days, and hope it comes out looking as nice.
