NC&J:Modelik Narrow-Gauge Train

I chose this model for three reasons:

1) I have never built a train model
2) I don't like using non-paper materials in my builds and this model requires a lot of wire
3) I don't take in-construction photos of my builds and this will force me to

A few notes about the model itself:

1) Great colors
2) Great fit
3) Great detail (lots of small pieces)
4) inadequate instructions (for me, at least) I had to guess on several of the parts

HA! Glad to hear the fit is good on this one. This was one of my options for the challenge as well, but I never thought I'd get it done in time...if ever. Looks like the O&K engine is coming along well. As I recall the engine has side skirts over the working gear like in the cover illustration. Hate to cover all that work up!
Best of luck and I'll be watching closely!

Good rationale for the model.

Excellent model so far. Fascinating detail inside the cab.

Very nice!....... Good clean build, and I don't see anything wrong, so you must have guessed correctly.

Personally I'd build it without the side skirts on.... They just cover up all the nice detail. They only fit those on locomotives that are described as Tram Engines. The covers are supposedly there to protect dogs, small boys and other offending articles :D from getting mangled up in the valve gear when they are running through streets, like a tramway. There are lots of examples of the same locomotives when they're not fitted.

Best Regards,
Julian (Fozzy The Bear)

Thanks to everyone for the encouraging comments. As for the side skirts, I am still debating what to do. It looks like there is an option to hing them so they open.

Hinged is good. They are there, but not in the way.

More updates today. I have discovered that I enjoy building trains, but I still do not like using wire. :( I created a poor man's hinge for the skirts, using a strip of light-weight copy paper to swing back and forth.

This looks great and the valve gear came out fantastic. Have you had any fit problems at all so far?
Congratulations on the hinge, but I still think it's more interesting seeing the works!

Coming along very nicely. Your finished results do not indicate the dislike you have with working with wire, the wire bits came out very nice looking.
I wonder what wire you used? Was it a paper clip or the like painted or did you use coated electrical wire? The black finish on the wire bits looks very nice.
