So the computer I built and have kept running for the past 12 years or so finally decided to give up the ghost. And the back up hard drive is incompatible with the new computer, so I had to order an enclosure for the drive. so until I receive that and get it hooked up im on hold(for a week maybe) on this. but to run everything and make sure my programs are working smoothly(and get used to this new computer) im working on another project.(will put aside when I can access the hard drive.)

Soooo ! Time out needed on the Thompson it is then. OK, but maybe not as long a pause as there was with the MG-34 please?

I'm committed to this ol' chatterbox now as I have now got the violin case ready and waiting for it, and I can't start modifying the case until I've got the gun to go in it. P'raps I'll build a Canon paper violin to go in it meantime. I did think about it, but I don't think my wobbly fingers are up to that yet either.

Certainly not good news. Fingers crossed for you Trent. Hopefully not too much data lost. As a 12 year old, I assume the HD was an IDE type, not a SATA one. What make and model? I've got a stack of old ones you may be able to salvage a PCB from, but I'm pretty sure we're separated by an ocean. I'm in UK.

Although my archives are stored on a RAID configured NAS unit, I've also been backing them up on Drop Box. For quite a generous amount it's free, so why not use it? It's also useful for sharing files that are a bit big to send as email attachments. There are other free 'Cloud' storage facilities around, but I've mainly only used Dropbox so far, though I've also used a friend's Google Drive account to successfully swap files that can be stored there.

my new computer comes with 100gigs of offline storage for free. i think i will avail myself to it. it is a seagate barracuda 7200.7 , 200gig. the pcb i ordered came from this exact model. i have a stack of hard drives myself but none of the pcb's are compatible.

Fingers crossed for ya fella!

Pain in my fingers is reduced now that I'm on Beta Blockers, so I guess the time has come to try to build the Canon violin. Well I gotta fill the case with somethin' or 'er indoors will start berating me for wasting the money. I haven't actually told her what I want to put in it yet.
