U.S.S. North Carolina

I actually have 2 projects going at the same time. The U.S.S. Langley, which is giving me problem with the discrepancies between blueprints. Read an article that states even the blueprints in the national archives are inaccurate.

but while i figure out what to do with that issue, I am starting the battleship North Carolina. I have spent a lot of time on her, and have a piece of her original teak decking. The North Carolina earned 15 battle stars. bombarded 9 islands sunk a merchant ship and shot down 24 aircraft. The only damage received was a torpedo hit. She has(1945) 9- 16 inch guns, 20- 5 inch guns, 60- 40 mm AA guns, and 36- 20 mmAA guns.

Both are very interesting designs. But my favorite would be U.S.S. Langley
Yes, lack of detail blueprints in most cases is a big issue. But counting the fact that there is no other U.S.S. Langley paper model (I think so), to make one even not so accurate, would be a big achievement.

My intention is to work on both. I had to step away for a moment from Langley while i come to grips with how im going to proceed. Today just happened to be a motivated day for the North Carolina.

so got the basics for the front half of the hull done. back half due up next.

Cheers on the North Carolina. I live a couple of miles from her and also own my piece of her deck. She is a beautiful sight.

I look forward to seeing your progress on the USS North Carolina. That model would definitely be a "Showboat".

I believe there's a model of the USS Langley at the San Diego Maritime Museum. You might want to contact their model shop. The nice thing about designing a model of the "Covered Wagon" is that you can fairly easily convert it to the later seaplane tender configuration, or backdate it to the collier USS Jupiter.

Or the Jupiter's infamous sister ship, USS Cyclops...

started work on some details but ran into a couple of issues. 1 meta's new update totally fubared booleans again. 2 spent a great many hours narrowing down some base RGB colors. now im off to correspond with the good folks at meta.
