Lockheed F-104 Starfighter Luftwaffe 1:72

Printed this out and started it last night. I've downscaled it from the original 1:50 to 1:72, which just barely allows it to be printed at two pages per sheet.

This won't be the first Starfighter I've built, actually. I did one of Kancho Iliev's a few years back, but it got damaged in a move.

Hey, Aaron...this doesn't look right...

Isn't the bottom edge of that middle green section (the part with the yellow arrows) supposed to line up with the parts forward and aft of it?

I've only taped the parts together so far, so no (permanent) harm done.

Hmmm, I also printed the model out, didn't look at the colour alignments. Best to PM Aaron with the issues, looks like a quick fix for him.

Let me have a look at it. Probably a case of color bleed over. Should be a simple fix.

Yep, Aaron emailed me the corrected part within a few hours of my telling him about it; thanks for the fast work, Aaron! Here's my subsequent progress (with the fixed part):

The cannon was kind of finicky at this size, and the center internal wing section (is there a better term for that?) was surprisingly hard to get in there correctly. Maybe there was a better order I could have done things in to make it easier. Fortunately, a lot of the mess will be covered by the engines on both sides of the fuselage.

Moving on, I noticed what looks like another coloring issue: the thin white band on this part (it's a fuselage section toward the rear) is supposed to be red, according to the photos I've seen.

I used a red marker to color it myself on my already-printed part, but Aaron might want to change it in the files as well.

Oops. I thought I had this one beta tested? I noticed a few other errors that translated to both versions (No tabs on the landing gear). I'll get those updated ASAP.

And when it comes to the center wing section, I actually designed it for the whole wing to be assembled, then slid through the slot. The overlap at the seams helps to hold the shape of the fuselage.

That makes a lot of sense, and I feel kind of silly for not thinking of it. I guess that means now is as good a time as any to put the wings on.

I don't think I mentioned before, but I'm using joining strips where appropriate to avoid overlapping edges. I'm also leaving the tip of the nose open because I'm determined to avoid the tail-heavy problem I had with my Avanti.

Added the intakes and upper fuselage.

It didn't really turn out so great; I made more creases and smudges than I would have liked.
