OBP B-66 Destroyer (Re-color)
Well, here's my entry into Oddball-o-rama II. It's a Douglas B-66 Destroyer. I have to start by saying that I couldn't get my printer to print properly, one wing, and the rear fuselage page printed a light blue and everything else light grey, no matter how many times I tried. I thought I was saving money by using a laser printer...
I figured that since I have to recolor, I might as well add a couple of details as well. I added some decals, rivets, shading, I drew up the wheel well details, and decided to print the air brakes separately, so the fuselage join is minimized. It printed out pretty good, then I sprayed two coats of clear on the front of the cardstock, and one coat on the back. My son is the photographer in the family, and he's away in school. I'll do the best possible. So here goes my start. Enjoy! Gary

Looks good. I have a buddy who flew the RB-66 version in Vietnam.

Not to divert attention from your build, but he was the electronic warfare officer on an EB-66 (not an RB-66 as I erroneously posted earlier). This was the electronic warfare version of the aircraft. They accompanied strike packages into North Vietnam to jam North Vietnamese air defense radars.

Well, I now have one nacelle finished along with the wings, tail and landing gear. Final assembly and detailing will be this weekends fun. I look forward to it.
Thanks, Gary

Looking good on the model, you're making me keen to build one.
Side note, electronic warfare and AWAC are somewhat different. AWAC is more akin to air traffic control, whereas the EB-66 and later EA-6 and EF-111 are true electronic warfare (actively jamming and blocking enemy radar). Still thinking about your laser printer colour issues, could be a driver issue maybe? Regards Niki |

Thanks Niki for the positive feedback and the clarification on electronic warfare vs AWAC.
This model is a lot of fun to build, I just need to find the time. I did check to make sure that my drivers were updated on my printer. I did read a post where people with Epson Inkjet printers were having problems with printing different shades of grey. There were a number of suggestions. It seemed the easiest solution was to re-color a color that printed. Thanks Again, Gary

It's finished, and I had a lot of fun building this kit (apart from the printer giving me a problem). Everything fit well, and I would highly recommend this kit.
Thank you for viewing, Gary
