Wow!
160 views and I didn't even start cutting....
Time to fix that :D
Issues...
Control stick needs to be reprinted on regular paper or delaminated. otherwise the poor guy in the cockpit would have to handle 4 inch pipe.
Location of the seat and its brackets is not marked on the bulkhead so it's up to the modeler to figure it out - I placed it a bit to low...

Except for the above, everything falls into place without any problems.
I cut down fomer B3 to accomodate support for the direction finder. That's not really necessary but I wanted to avoid having to force the pin down into it at the later time.

Thanks goodness. At last comes the time to post a comment that I have waited for.
You know it is not so easy for me non native speaker of English to comment without seeing picture of building.
Let me ask silly question. Is it the direction finder neatly folded and glued brown colored object in the first photo?

It might be, but since the cockpit doesn't look at all as on the few photos I have it really is a guesswork.
My comment about the cut down former was to acomodate the circular antena to be mounted behind the headrest. There will also be a radio antena mast mounted further aft (same segment) but the location for it is not marked.

Great start, Mike. Inspires me to get back to the Shiden.

That IS a very substantial control stick, isn't it?

I really admire the quality of your craftsmanship -- and the string of beautiful Japanese aircraft that you are building.

Don

Don,
Control stick is rolled from delaminated paper - if done exactly as printed, it would have 3 times larger diameter....
The best approach here would be to dump the printed part altogether and use bent wire.

A great start, Michael. This looks like a quality kit overall. I have it, but I haven't even looked at it yet. I'm really looking forward to seeing your excellent craftsmanship bring this one together.

I need some help with the markings for this plane...
It supposed to be aircraft flown by the the Flight Leader of 261 Kokutai. Model has white band around the fuselage and nothing on the wings. All plastic/diecast models showing this plane have white angled bands on both upper and lower wing surfaces. I cannot find any description or photos of this plane to verify it but I'm really leaning towards those white stripes on the wings - our plastic brethrens had to come up with them somewhere, right?
Anybody has any info/input on this?

There are some Zero images from the 261 Kokutai here:
IJN - 2xx Kokutais - None of them seem to have white bands on the wings.

The plastic people often don't do their own research (Imho) - so errors get propagated.

Regards,

Charlie

Charlie,
Thanks for link. Actually the first plane shown (X-110) is the subject of this kit and does have white bands on the wings - at least on lower surfaces

I remember you like those japanese fighters for some reason, Mike.
Bring it over, no matter the "disadvantages".
