And I didn't really expect Tbolter to run out and buy the magazine and start super-detailing the cockpit. I just thought it was a neat concidence to have the article appear just as Tbolter's TBD build was going down.

The TBD-1 is finished...just in time, we'll be spending next week in Texas (anyone know where that is?) for a little RR&R.

Here's a few pics, the assembly went fairly well, the unprinted area around the wing fillets extended out past the wing fillets and quite a bit of touchup was required there.
And, of course, typical of the early Malys, the cockpit leaves much to be desired in detail.

Here are some finished pics, the color shift after scanning and balancing actually worked out ok...a little chalk and fade from salt spray?

The 8-T-7 designation on the side indicates that this plane flew off the Hornet, that's my research...not necessarily right. We visited the Hornet in Oakland a few years ago and that made this build kind of special.

My flight deck is getting crowded so the folded wings will save a little space and since the TBD was the first plane with hydraulically folding wings this was an appropriate depiction, again, my research and not necessarily right.

Thanks,

Malys are fun to build, there's always a point where I think I'm going to give up and toss the build but in the end after all the modifications and bits and pieces are done they turn out pretty good.

I guess the key is...don't give up!

It looks terrific. This is another of my favorites and you have fully done the airplane justice.

Thumbs up

A most excellent build. Very nice and not too much wrestling required I'd guess.
