OTDAEABT Contest - Maly Modelarz Me 163B Komet

HA! And you thought I was smart enough to quit while I was behind!
Actually, this isn't all that serious an entry, I just like seeing all the OTDAEABT Contest thread headings!:D

Since I almost did this one before the Lysander, I figured I'd just do it now while the MM fever is still slightly warm. I want to give the guys who are doing the hard models some company!
It looks to be a simple kit in all ways; 4 loosely packed pages including formers, low level of detail and coloring, and the prototype is a simple form. The highest part number I can find is 40. The biggest challenge I see going into it is the canopy, which can be made as supplied (paper), or made of cut transparent plastic, or heat formed as a single piece.
I've scanned and worked the color a little more to my liking. It' probably not right, but I don't mind.
Can't wait to see how badly I mangle this one!
Chris
PS. Anyone out there done this one before? Any words of warning I should know about?

Alright now! You guys are just using the contest as an excuse to get rid of the MM pile you had in the corner. You just squeaked under the wire with this one, it being a 1998 model. Strangely enough you did not qualify for any of the double-secret bonuses everyone got so I had to create a triple-secret bonus (the "No Bonus Bonus") just for this build.

The No Bonus Bonus!! How lucky can a guy get!
But you can't blame us for continuing to build Maly Modelarz kits.
YOU are the one who started it all and we have the documents to prove it! You have no one to blame but yourself...well, maybe us a little.
Besides, with a stack of MM kits the size of mine, I'll use any excuse to build them!

I built this one... I really didn't like it.
It was a long time ago so I don't remember specifics, but I think it had several problems, especially around the wings.

To be honest, I threw it out because I just didn't like the plane itself. I really don't remember the details!

Chris, you are working against all odds with this kit, my friend.

Good luck... and yes, I'll be checking on you for this model.

WOW. Fool that I was, I thought perhaps that the simpler the model, the less chance of getting it wrong. What a knucklehead I am! This is one of those kits where nothing actually fits together correctly! The formers are all over the map, too big, too small, you name it!

Still, some form of paper model is hidden somewhere in this kit.:D I'm not even going to bother showing the numerous misalignments, it's just too hard to figure out what's not aligning with what!

The basic fuselage is together and while it's certainly not an impressive model so far, it does have the simple charm of being a paper model.
I do have a question for anyone who has built this kit or knows a bit about the prototype;

The plans show this odd piece in the cockpit. There is only one other reference to it here;

There's no plan for it or number for the part. It seems like it needs to be some sort of scratchbuilt part. But of what? Any help would be....helpful!
Chris
