OTDAEABT Contest - Maly Modelarz HS123

Okay! Better get this one officially started before the contest is over! In an effort to keep the OTDAEABT Contest threads active, I'm continuing my efforts to get all the old MM kits done I can!
This one is the Hs123. It's my first biplane;

I tried to recolor it a little because of one bad page on my original. Not sure, but I think I made it worse!:D
My work schedule has just kicked into gear with long days, seven of them a week, so I'm not sure why I'm even attempting this. Obsessive behavior, I think!

Had an hour and a half this morning, so I got most of the fuselage together. This is the first bulkhead and stringer model I've built in quite a while...it's going together quite well! There are several sections that are less than ideal fits, but I'm gluing 'em anyway! It's a good thing I took this picture as I noticed the end section had been bent up; fixed now. I only hope the rest of the kit goes together as well as this has!

Don't fergit the wires - Carl gets cranky when you fergit the wires.

It doesn't matter - you better put a couple on just to be safe!

A little bit more;

Tail fins and lower main wing, windshield and that lump behind the cockpit.
I can see where this would be a frustrating kit. There are definitely a few tight fits, but overall so far, they have all been minor, except the left wing, which needed trimming to fit. I really messed up the colors, though, and one page looks as bad on my print out as the original does.
I am having more fun on this one than the others. I think after the Comet, this one fits like a dream, and after the eight piece canopy of the Lysander, the windscreen is a simple joy!

Looks good so far.

I thought I'd preempt the possible discussion about the fuselage identification codes. It seems to be quite accurate....

the "L2" is Lehrgeschwader 2, the 4th digit "N" implies 5 Staffel, II Gruppe - the 3rd digit should be in red - as it is (http://users.hol.gr/%7Enowi/luftcodes/index.html)

The wikipedia article on the Hs 123 says that all the available Hs 123s were operated by II.(Schl)/LG 2 in the 1939 Polish and 1940 French campaign.

The unit emblem according to http://www.michael-reimer.com/CFS2/C...waffe_LG2.html
is attached. Scroll down to the II Gruppe section and there's a profile of your Hs 123.

Regards,

Charlie

Very cool, Charlie! Thanks for the info! I'll try and copy the unit emblem as well.
