That's nice!
I think the male will give you more trouble! I consider it to be my most difficult model. |

My little work table is a bit crowded right now, so I may not get started on it right away, but as soon as there's room for it .... I'm looking forward to this one, but I'm looking forward to the Flying Finch even more. I don't know why, but I'd always imagined the Bird of Paradise to be quite a big bird. Perhaps I'm confusing it with a Lyre Bird, which I believe is turkey sized. Keep on snippin' ... Johnny. |

Toucan all done...
Needed a few peaks burnished and edges painted, but otherwise a good model. Amazingly it balances well and perches on his log with no glue. Male BoP printed and on the table for tomorrow ... unless she requires my presence at Tesco of course. Keep on snippin' ... Johnny. |

... and she has a mate ...
Hmmm! Flash photos always seem to find those odd bits of white edge that you missed don't they? Keep on snippin' ... Johnny. |

That is certainly one crazy bird! How did you find the build Johnny?

Nice model. I remember watching a David Attenborough show on TV about Bird-of-paradise. The males put on quite a dance, that one in particular.

Oh yeah, forming the wings was a bit involved, and I found that some glue soaked tissue rolled into a sausage greatly helped to form the leading edge. I'm wondering where he manages to park that cloak when he wants to use his wings? A peacock's fan is on his tail, behind the wings, but this one is around his neck in front of the wings. Now all I've got to do is find some shelf space for them. Her Ladyship has all the windowsills in use for seedlings . Keep on snippin' ... Johnny |

If you look close at the beginning of this video you will see the cloak on his back above the wings.

Audubon magazine for May-June 2014 has an article about passenger pigeons. Included in the article is an origami model pattern of a passenger pigeon.
You can go to Fold the Flock | The Passenger Pigeon Origami Project to download a pattern to make your own. It is one sided with folding instructions and sized for 8.5 x 11 USLtr paper with the pattern itself 7.5 inches x 7.5 inches. The pattern in the magazine is two sided and is 10 inches x 10 inches.
