The ink bottle with the silver cap inscribed with my monogram and the relatively new Pelikan M200 Smoky Quartz pen are also gifts from Lil.

My post describing the fabrication of the box is at http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/624536-post18.html

Cheers,

Yes. I was reading through this report and spotted your Pelikan M1000.
These lovely antique looking boxes to house a pen collection are a marvelous application of paper crafting.

What is your oldest paper crafted pen box?
Or should I say: How old would it be if it were original?

So you locate old pens and restore them to working condition?

Mike the oldest box is one for a John Holland dip pen 1870 ish, I’ve been able to get a few old pens Conklin crescent from 1905 ish is my present favorite of the really old ones the Moore pen previously posted probably pre 1917. I have been working on “calligraphy “
Using vintage nibs too. Reliable pens from the 1920s are not hard to find however I generally get them broken for cheaper and repair them to use. Lots of fun learning about the USA pen history and wondering when an old pen may have been used last...

Those qualify as "antiques".
You came up with a simple but elegant idea to frame them with replicas of the original boxes.

Fun I have one old original box from 1930s waiting for the pen that goes in it. The pre 1925 or so pens were prior to plastic and are usually machined from black hardened rubber, I have been fabricating new caps of card and black ca I’ll have to show the cap process am even making threads of sorts

Here's a picture of the box made for this Victorian dip pen it's very small
The box is about 1/2 inch wide, lined with dark blue "velvet" as they usually were. I'm amazed that without electricity they could tip the gold nib with iridium, still beyond the home repairer today.

I can't tell.
Is this a "Glen" reproduction,
or an original box?

It’s my interpretation of an original box thanks
For this fragile old item the box offers protection too

You sure did a superb job of capturing the look of the patterned leather of the original box.
