airdave 2017 Christmas Tree Build

Last year Dave gave us his really cool Christmas Tree. I modified the tree a little. Thank you Dave! I decided to use it for my home Christmas Tree.

Well I built it, have a few photos to show:

First photo shows how big the 2ft x 3ft cardstock sheet is compared to scissors. Time To Cut Everything Out:

Next is to use a tool to Score the Fold Lines:

Accordian Folding:

Edge Coloring:

Looks Like a Hand Fan:

Gluing:

Parts Ready For Snow & Glitter:

Snow and Glitter was a very bad idea. Snow is still shedding after a year of getting knocked around. Just would not stick at all to the cardstock after it dried. Yellowed and came off in big chunks, what a mess!

The following photo shows what it looked like after the snow and glitter have been added.

Snowing:

Decided to convert the cardstock base using real basswood of same width. Base was then drilled proper size for cardstock tree trunk.

Wood instead of cardstock Base:

Will continue with more photos of finished tree with 2018 up-grades.

2018 Decorations

This year added a few up-grades!

First was to install 2-different sets of 60 lights each string. These are the super small micro size LED that run on 2-C size batteries. 3-positition switch allows steady, flash, fade features.

Once turned to proper position you want , it will turn itself off after several hours of being on, then the next night it will turn itself on again.

Added Glitter glue to glue lights to tree.

To hide the light wiring I added a garland made using Shimmer Fuzzy Sticks. Wired together by twisting the ends to each other, gave a really long length to work with, was able to wrap whole tree!

Added some of the smallest tree ornaments that I could find. Will look for some blue, gold and silver to balance the red.

Full size Icicles have been added to cammo the wires as well.

Here is the Decorated Tree:

No particular Order For These Photos. First is a Dark Silhouette with Santa and his hobby:

A few more different looks:

Old Santa and Sleigh from the Cannon site.

Rocket and systems are scratch built.

Modified Rocket Sleigh; What you think the Reindeer are all that Santa uses? Apollo was nothing more than a Secret Santa Project!

hahaha thats amazing.

lol I think you overdid it a little with the spray snow!
the printed tree almost disappeared, but thats okay, I like that spray snow too!

based on your usual routine I expected to see a 7 foot tall paper Xmas tree.
I'm glad you came down to earth and built it much smaller! LOL

You built this last year? did you share it with us then?
Did I totally forget about it? (probably, my memory is crap now!)
So, exactly how tall is it?

Hi Dave,

No, didn't send it in, was after Christmas when completed.

27.75" [70.5cm] long.

Work in progress, need to get a top piece next.

Thanks Dave, it was a fun build!

Mike
