You are right Rick. Those cogs look hefty.
It seems Leonardo was not too concerned about weight.

One thing about the kit, the parts are big, and the resulting model naturally is big.

In picture 1, the machine is laying on its back, I was having to reglue the two parts which connect the single hinge point to the bottom of the wing(where the two tweezers are holding the tad while the glue dries and sets.)
I had to do this to both sides.

I was able to divert a potential disaster, somehow in shuffling the parts around, and even test fitting each of the pieces, I ended up with the frame upside down, and then I glued in the "fuselage" in place, once I discovered my error, I was able to wedge my knife between the parts, and remove the fuselage from the frame, and eventually glue the fuselage in its proper location with the frame in the proper orientation.

In pictures 2 and 3, the completed flying machine, with the tail feathers, and wings in their proper place.

The remaining 3 parts on the last two sheets, a part was attached to the sleeve that covers the main drive strut, and holds parts 55 and 56 in place.
The last two parts are for the crank, a rope like handle cover, and the cap ring.
I have been working on shaping the rope cover, the card stock used is a bit stiff, and doesn't want to hold it's shape.

The end is nigh.

Rick

We have arrived at the end, the automata is done.

And it is BIG, in the wing down position the model is just under 15 inches tall, with the wings raised, we are measuring right around 20 inches.

I do believe that this model is more "geared" to those who have paper modeling experience.
If the kit would have been bought for a kid, and parents would help, without any prior paper crafting or model building experience, they will have a very hard time assembling the kit.
I am not even sure what the right glue would be in order to build the kit would be. I have used 5 different glues, from clear ones to a glue stick.

If you are fan of automata or Leonardo da Vinci, this would be a worthwhile addition to your collection.

I hope you have enjoyed the trip back in time, and I hope you might consider building this yourself.

Rick

Excellent work Rick.
This is a nice showpiece for Leonardo's unique engineering.
