Is it just peanut butter manufactured by Marmite, or is it some sort of mixture of peanut butter, yeast, and umami?

I have heard that some countries have banned Marmite because it has too many vitamins or something.

There is also Australian Vegemite, which tastes very similar to me, but seems to be thicker and less spreadable. I keep at least one jar of each (and a couple of tubes of anchovy paste) on hand at all times, both for spreading on toast and to add to stews and soups. I rarely eat it by sticking my finger in the jar as I did in years gone by.

I've heard that some melt cheese on top of toast, butter, and Marmite. Never tried it, but might some day, in a spirit of inquiry. For some reason, this makes me think of Welsh rarebit with a poached egg on top.

I don't dislike Marmite, but I never knew one can cook with it... What's the recipe like?

Recipe: To one pot of stew or soup that is simmering, add one or two tablespoons of Marmite, Vegemite, anchovy paste.

As an alternative, a quarter cup of Worcester sauce or Maggi seasoning.

Any of these things will add umami.

Marmite peanut butter??? Dear God. What has the world come to?? Come to think of it, the other half loves Marmite. And peanut butter. Might be worth tracking a jar down - brownie points never come in wrong ;o)

Surprised to see 'Bounty' referred to as 'Almond Joy' - as far as I'm aware it's all coconut! We used to have 'Marathon' bars, which are now called 'Snickers', and 'Opal Fruits' which are now 'Starburst'. All down to globalisation I guess.

I said that Bounty would be similar to Almond Joy/Mounds, probably should be Mounds, with milk chocolate instead of dark chocolate

Is there a dark chocolate version over there? I am so getting that! Names aside, I think most of these snacks worldwide are now owned by a few global corporations. How they brand their product in each country is simply a matter of taste, I guess.

The Peter Paul, then Cadbury, now Hershey Mounds is shredded coconut covered in dark chocolate. The mounds is shredded coconut topped with almonds and covered in milk chocolate.

"Sometimes you feel like a nut / sometimes you don't / Almond Joy's got nuts / Mounds don't."

A Bounty Bar is something in between, as Rock said. A milk chocolate-covered Mounds bar, or an almond-less Almond Joy.

Lex,a matter of taste indeed. Heinz Baked Beans in the US is not as sweet as the same Heinz Baked Beans in the UK. Love Don's addition to the soup recipe. Did not find Vegimite had quite the same tart, astringent taste or consistency of Marmite.

Don - Marmite Peanut Butter is made by Marmite (Unilever).

One of my favourites is toast with Marmite (a little) and a strong cheddar cheese. Or cream cheese!

Baked beans, a little Balsamic vinegar and Marmite added increases depth. Cheese and Marmite on toast is a thing of the ex and common in Yorkshire where they also have cheese on rich dark fruit cake/Christmas cake and NO icing...

Marmite/Vegemite has a ton of salt and should be taken in moderation lest your system become intolerant.
