Canon's Star Festival Decoration

Hi all,

I was looking over the Canon's website, and came across this decoration, and felt that would look good sitting in my display case.

So I printed it, the base, and bamboo trunk were printed on 65lb Bright White Cover Stock, and the leaves, and decorations were printed on plain paper, on a color laser jet.

Saturday evening, I started with the base parts, scored all those that need it.


After scoring and cutting the parts out, the first little bits were attached.


Sunday afternoon, I finished gluing up the base, and getting everything lined up.


Next up is the bamboo stalk, and branches, and after that, the decorations and leaves.

You're really on a building roll, Rick!

I like your very timely Tanabata project, and the pile of tiny paper scraps under your tools can provide mulch for that bamboo.

I guess you know that the same Star Festival (Tanabata) celebrated by this project also inspired Pat's excellent tatebanko based on the Toyokuni wood block print (http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/a...-toyokuni.html).

Lotsa interesting and useful stuff at the Canon site. Youngest daughter-in-law often draws on their materials for the Chinese language classes she teaches.

Thank you very much, Mon Colonel,

I have always liked the decorations for their festivals
I have done a lot of Origami based on their festivals, and I have been always been impressed with the Yamaha offerings.

Here is the Sunday Night update.

I have been successful rolling the parts of the bamboo stalk, and sticking it into the base.

The branches were doubled up, and then cut out.
