Japan's new stealth fighter
The X-2 is Japan's first stealth fighter. Looks a lot like a smaller nerfed F-22 to me, but it may still have some new bells and whistles. See for yourself

Remind me of the NASA X24A & X24B.

I read another article on it (msn.com I think) that also noted this resemblance, thought I think it said the X-42 on accident. I definitely don't see any likeness there though!

Is the profile, canopy and fins that make it looks like X24 to me.

Just like with cars these days, I feel planes are starting to look like each other more and more. There of course is just one optimal shape for each size/assignment but all 'stealth' planes do have that sharp folds across the sides of the nose, all of them have LERX, double tails, the same angle in the wings and tails, jagged panel doors, etc.
This one is no different. It just has happy colours instead of the dull regular grey shades the others appear to have. But the Russian T-50 and Yak-130 (and thus also the Italian Aermacchi M346), the F-35 Pork Chop, F-22 Raptor, the Chinese J-20, they al share all - or some - of these characteristics. And to be honest, I have always seen the X-24 as a kind of flying potato. They just added some small wing thingies, and later a pointy bit. A nice little aircraft but I can't really see the similarity. (oh well, perhaps the chubbyness of the F-35 comes close...) What is really standing out with the Japanese X-2 is the thrust vectoring method. No moveable exhaust pipes, but like the X-31 it has vanes. Perhaps it is just in this test model, who knows. It has some nasty un-stealthy characteristics. |

If I recall, a lot of Migs in the 80s looked very similar to their American counterparts, especially Soviet versions of the F-14 and F-15. Of course, that could have just been due to the arms race...

Well if you seek the same purpose, the result usually also appears to be similar.

Disappointed, basically the ability of the F-35 to mix it with any super agile opposition suddenly becomes slated as not being highly agile. No news but old news, we was duped, again.

Japanese prototype stealth plane makes first flight
It just had its first test flight, which apparently was successful. I guess the Japanese know something that the U.S. doesn't
