I ran some of the tweets through Google Translate. The complete model will be exhibited (when the virus has passed) as part of an metropolitan government exhibition titled 'Knowing about town development' in Tokyo.
I think the look of this model is a great example of why film and TV production still use models in the age of advanced CGI (contrary to popular belief, even Star Wars Ep1 was mostly models for backgrounds). There's a certain clarity in the perspective and colour that you wouldn't get with a computer render nor flying over in real life. I would be interested to learn the process for designing the models and street layout - from some of the tweets I am guessing a combination of aerial imagery, maps and photographs with some visits to the actual location and data on heights. If the virus lockdown continues any longer, I could contemplate trying something similar for my city... |
