Needlearts
My other hobby: If you can find a copy, there is an article in
the June 2012 issue of "Needlearts", the national magazine of The Embroiderers' Guild of America. Bob |

Thanks Whulsey & Swampfox. The only pictures I have are in the magazine,
I will see at the next meeting if I can get the ladies who took the pictures if they can send me pdfs. By the way, SFX counted cross stitch TEACHES you concentration and patience as well as helping you relax and watch as the blank canvass miraculously changes into a picture, some of the same gratification you get from paper modeling. I like to show people a completed model along with another copy of the same one uncut. If you find someone in your area who is a member of EGA they will have a copy of the magazine. Google CVCEGA to get my local chapter, from there to the national which has a list of all U.S. chapters. Cheers, Bob |

Bob
My wife is a member of EGA (as will as both my daughters) if I can get her to let loose of the magazine I'll scan the photos and post them. Jim Nunn

Bob's work is stunning and the article is very interesting (you should see his work area). There is an almost photo quality in his work that you seldom see this well executed (my wife is jealous)
Bob, I have scanned the complete article but it is copy righted if you can obtain permission I would be happy to up load the article. I think the members would like to see the complete article. Jim Nunn

Bob, you aren't the only member in that particular closet. My wife got me hooked on cross stitch back in 1985...it is a really good relaxer when life hands me stress. My wife owns the Needleworking group in Yahoo groups...please drop by if you haven't already. Here are a few of my pieces. The crab nebula is one of the future projects in my list. I did one of the planets, but my stepdaughter stole it right off the wall, which will likely be the fate of any Hubble photo I may someday do.

Darwin, Beautiful work, actually I don't think of it as "work" (most of the time).
As you say it can be very relaxing until a thread inexplicably knots and it isn't noticed for a while, then...it's ripping out time. Jim, Interesting you should mention copyrights, a cross stitch site in Australia has cut way back on her "lifetime free membership" charts because she has found that some members are giving away or selling charts. Sound familiar? Look up her site, Artecy. Another designer in Canada is about to call it quits too, same reason. You might have noticed in the article that my wife would not do counted cross stitch. She did anything else in needlework and very well at that. Actually, the best way for members to see the article would be to find a local chapter of the Embroiderers' Guild on line and find a member in their own neighborhood. I'll ask for permission from the guild anyway so the international guys (and gals) can see too. (I'm the only male member in the local chapter, so I run into that gender issue when at meetings too). I have jpeg files of four of the pictures on a CD but I don't know how to get them of the disk and uploaded to the papermodelers site. Those are mine, so there is no copyright problem. I might mention I downloaded that Crab Nebula from the Hubble site and assumed that was ok since my taxes paid for that. I may be wrong, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Enjoy, Cheers and Thanks Bob |
