Baja Challenge
Hi all,
I wasn't sure where I wanted to post this thread, but I decided on putting it here in the Other Things forum. This past Saturday, my brother and I went to the Rausch Off Road Park in Tremont, PA. And we visited with Legendary Excursions, for their U Drive Baja experience. I found a discount offer on Groupon, and bought the offer. After the initial paperwork, and helmet fitting(XXL for me), we got in to our steed. During the laps I drove, the car kept cutting out, come to find out that the radiator was empty, and there was an electrical issue that even killed the car so it didn't have a spark. After the radiator was filled, and after the tow back to the yard, and getting the electrical issue fixed, the laps my brother and I, did were an absolute blast. We hit a couple of water hazards, and got promptly soaked, good thing we had a change of clothes with us. I will post some of the pictures I took on Saturday, later this day. Now of course I want to tie this to paper modeling, hence the 3 view I posted. If anyone cares to create a paper model of this, scale and detail level is left totally to the designer who decides to tackle this one. If you need to google additional images, search for Wide Open Baja Challenge Car. Would I go again, YES!!, in a heartbeat! Rick

Here are the pictures I mentioned in the original post.
My brother in the white-ish shirt talking to the guide BC2, one of two buggies that was down, a driver, claiming to be a pro trashed this and another buggy. BC3, our steed, in the yard, after being towed back, because of the umpteenth time losing power, or spark, they finally fixed the electrical issue by re-soldering one of the connections. Power was there, and stable, and we got 2 laps in at the end. My brother and I after we went through a puddle, that was deep, and big enough to have 20 or more people in it, we had this picture taken after we got back from being towed back to the yard. I would do this in a heartbeat again Rick

Sure looks like it was a lot of fun!
In 1977 I was in Monaco for the Grand Prix. At that time, they allowed anybody who wanted to run the track, do so for a fee of 50 Francs. So I paid the fee and tore up the course in my TR-6. That was a lot of fun!

The closest I ever came to this was driving the course at Watkins Glen with a friend in his black MG TC in the spring of 1959. He had made a down payment on the car, knowing that he couldn't make the other payments.
In those days, the entrance to the race course was blocked with a simple wooden horse, which we moved to drive on to the track. Looking back from more than half a century, I can't approve of our actions, but it's still a good memory. The drive to and from Watkins Glen trough the hills of the Finger Lakes region on a sunny spring day was great, too. Don |
