I'm actually surprised these old eyes saw it

These ancient eyes found it too ... but I had to zoom in quite a lot.

Had fun watching them for a few days, but today the little one left the nest. Hasn't mastered the flying thing yet, but Momma is keeping a watchful eye from above

It was so odd. Whenever I would go out on my porch to check on the feral cats, I'd look up and either the momma or baby would watch me wherever I would go. I told Mom that and she said I'd probably have him visiting my porch when he finally took off. And sure enough...

No vids but I had good laugh watching my neise baby with hand full of duck food chase 4 ducks around the park for 10 mins as they ran away from her

My son had a bad experience at the zoo when he was young. He was feeding Canada geese, and one of them got him good. And then it chased him.
BTW ... baby owl finally made it up into another neighbor's elm tree. Momma is up there with him

Cool Barred owl fledgling very special opportunity to see them like that!
Young owls get flight feathers earlier than any body feathers, so they tend to wander away from the nest early ...even though they look way too young... Thank you for showing us those pictures

It was a very distracting afternoon. I brought Calico the feral cat inside, because momma owl probably wouldn't like her giving the baby attention. She swooped at a pedestrian trying to get a better look at the baby, and later at a driver who stopped to get a photo.
The baby found its way onto my porch and discovered cat food, then sat on my porch steps. Calico slipped out and momma was making all kinds of clicky noises and so was Barney. Calico got back onto the porch and I brought her in again. Later Barney was trying to fly from a small height off the embankment of my yard over the drive. Flutter to the driveway. Hop back up. Repeat. Eventually he ended up in my neighbor's elm tree, and he's still there this morning

Considering your forum nickname and the fact that you now have a resident owl family it seems like your subjects have a new fear to contend with.
