If you have cats as I do, then feeding the garden birds can be tricky but I have elevated feeding spots and an elevated watering hole which always have some visitor or another. A quick tip, any dog or cat food you have left over from a pack, even crumbs can be added to a bread and peanut butter mix that has added protein Never fails to go in the first hour when it goes up on the branch feeders.

I finally identified the crazy bird that keeps attacking my sliding glass door. It's a California towhee. How do I know it is a California towhee? Because the first sentence describing it at All About Birds says, "Your first encounter with a California Towhee may be prompted by a tireless knocking at your window or car mirror: these common backyard birds habitually challenge their reflections." Bingo.

Thanks all.

Doug, those are interesting pics.

I have put a feeder up and may do another - trouble is on the one they are eating us out of house and home!

We have to have alarms and security cameras everywhere here. The cameras have really come down in price, So my latest idea is to get one and put it on the birdfeeder. As a view on d3mand.

Will then be able to what is going on when we are at home! Just have wait for slack cash.......

What sort of a pelican? We get a few here - wondering if any are the same?

They occur inland, though I can't recall have got see any recently at all....

They look very friendly, though I see one is giving you the beady eye.......

These are pretty used to people, but I figured I'd about used up my quota of goodwill about getting closer.

Thanks for the image of Morro Bay pelicans. When we first hit the west coast at Morro Bay in 1970, on our way to the Presidio of Monterey, the flights of brown pelicans, looking to my eye like patrol bombers, really impressed me. We occasionally get brown pelicans at Cape May, and they are always a delight (we DO get lots and lots of formations of skimmers in the fall, however).

Incidentally, this year, the majority of the little birds in our particular backyard are goldfinches. They are just beginning to turn yellow. Normally, I would expect the yellow forsythia and daffs to start arriving, but after a warm spell, snow is predicted for tomorrow.

Regarding the Pelicans:
We don't usually get birds that large around here (Michigan).
However, recently there were some Sand Cranes near my mother's home.
I had never seen them before. If I get the chance, I'll capture photos and post them here.

The pelicans we get here are the Great White and Pink Backed. But haven't seen any for ages.

Went birding last weekend but the weather was horrible, so I just came Home!

Has anyone tried recording birds? Thinking of giving it a go......

Here is a post I did a year ago in this thread about recording some birds singing early in the morning.

It was actually very dark out and tranquil with the birds singing all around in the various trees.
There are a lot of mature oak trees and some pine trees around that make great habitat for all kinds of birds. Spring is getting close so there is an uptake in bird activity.
