Michael - not ignoring you!
Right out in the sticks until the end of next week. No reception unless I climb to the top of a hill, which is where I currently am. Hot but at least there is a cool wind. Lots of insect noises, bats and hyaena noises in the distance. Will hopefully be able to get some interesting pictures in the next few days. None today - had an 800 km drive to get here and overslept so got away late.

Cooper's Hawk and Caspian Tern
Think I've identified them correctly.

Great shot. Looks like the tern is explaining to the hawk that it should vacate the immediate vicinity.

Man Wayne, I give you a lot of credit for the focus on those two in flight.

Hi all, I see many cool photos and birds since last looked, we have had some nice photo ops here and some of Osprey's that are rebuilding their nest of sticks that blew over during the winter, wood ducks checking out our bird boxes, coots which for some reason hung around our area for a while, (bald eagle food...) Didn't get a pic of any hunting eagle though, my camera would be pure luck to be in focus in flight (Wayne..) A couple violet green swallows, and 2 species of female hummers, a calliope and a black chinned. We had a hatch today of the dragonfly sp that comes out this time of year only one or two days though, but you can't walk around without fear of trampling some of them as they walk out of the lake as larvae in a great number, but only mainly one day, amazing.

Some great shots there. Really like the first osprey one. The only one I've had a chance to get a shot of was at Portland Raceway a few years ago. While the NASCAR West race was going on, he was sitting on top of one of the light standards calmly munching on a fish. The dragonfly is really interesting.

Real nice array of birds in those images Glen.
My favorite is the Hummer in the last image. Was it a lucky shot, or do you have lots of opportunities with Hummingbirds? Mike |

Thanks Wayne, your pic is nice one though, I wish could get flying shots in detail (hummers don't count though hovering like a helicopter..)
Hi Mike, thanks, it's fun. The hummers will feed from the feeder in the morning and evening while you hold it, so is not too hard to get a pic, I just put the feeder close to me on the rail, and wait for the bird to back away from the feeder while feeding. They are really tame. Interestinly I was sitting just over the tree swallow nest and the male came up and sat between me and the feeder, the lighting wasn't good, but still cool, swallows have little fear of people, too. (especially when they come back yearly and know us) The odonata are Spiny Basketails (thanks to prior help from Ashrunner)
