Goldfinches
Today I noticed four or five goldfinches buzzing around my balcony.
So I grabbed my camera and captured some photos. I was afraid that if I opened my door wall, they would flee. So these were taken through glass. I was surprised the result was not bad. I was only about 6 or seven feet away from them. Mike |

Good shots. Did come out nice.
Pretty little birds. Very colourful. Bright dashing little male! Have you got feeders?

No Feeders Kevin. But there are two trees nearby with tiny seeds that the finches seem to enjoy. I don't know what kind of trees they are. |

Hi all, I have enjoyed this thread, although I have not had a chance to read every post yet, I was at a picnic today and snapped a couple of shots of some birds in the park. The kookaburra sat on a branch above our table, waiting for a sausage. At this park there are a lot of kookaburras and they are fairly tame. Later a magpie came looking for something to eat, and the ever present noisy miner jumped on the table as well to nag the other birds. The swan was down on a pond and came over to say hello as we left for the day.

Excellent images Robert.
We don't have black swans here, so that one is a pleasure to see. Mike |

From Carlisle, Pennsylvania, USA, your birds look wonderfully exotic, Robert. Thanks for sharing.
I liked the goldfinches, Mike. We had clouds of them earlier in the year, but they are pretty rare now. My camera is working again (lost the battery charger) and I hope to post some of my backyard birds over the weekend. As in your case, all the shots are taken through the window from my sunroom workplace. Don |

Robert - you first shot is very good - nice angle.
The Kookaburra looks like it is smiling! It also looks like it has a raucous cry? ---------------------------- Rick - your Blue Jay looks cosy, but positively suicidal! With four cats I would never get that shot in that location - unless the bird was upside down with it legs in the air!

Kevin, on the morning my first daughter was born I stepped out of the delivery suite at the hospital just as dawn was breaking to get some air and to ponder how my life was about to start a new chapter. I was a bit nervous, for the delivery and the future. The hospital is in a Bush setting and surrounded by gum trees. A light was shining into one of these trees, and sitting together on a branch were two kookaburras. And they both smiled down at me. That gave me all I needed to head back into the room to with a spring in my step to welcome my daughter to the world. Since then they have been special to me.
As to their cry, the ones around here are noisiest early in the morning, but in summer any time of the day seems ok for a koo koo kaa kaa kaa kaa kaaaa. Robert |
