Nice Mike Common Egrets have been expanding their range northward for some time, I saw one near our place this year which in the past would have been worthy of a "rare bird alert"
We had a wet October but nice ducks to see in migration ( nothing particularly unusual, but Buffleheads about 200 one day last week) and a few fall colored Common loons Ospreys just moved out but Eagles around for the duration

Great images, Glen! We never see violet green (vg?) swallows out here in the east, and I have never seen a brood like that.

I have seen no white-throated sparrows or northern juncos yet. Rare for this late in the fall. Presumably because the weather has stayed warm.

Great pics. The swallows are without a doubt my favourites!

Is the eagle captive? Looks almost like there is a metal ring and jesses there......

Haven't posted anything for a while, so here are a couple of birds that interested me.

The first is a Yellow-Fronted Canary. First time I have seen one.

The second is of a Grey Heron. Check the size of its fish - it seemed inconceivable at the time that it could even get it into its mouth - let aone swallow it - which it then did in very short order!

Thank you. Actually the Heron was shot at max zoom - at the time I just thought he was acting odd and just grabbed the camera. Not near enough to see what was giong on with a naked eye....

Harbinger of Winter

Today, I spotted the first white-throated sparrows, which, along with dark-eyed juncos that Lil calls "snowbirds" herald the coming of winter. No juncos yet, but they will show up soon.

I took a shot with a zoom lens through a dirty window that nonetheless captures the look of these pretty birds. A young male cardinal and a squirrel were also grazing in the back garden.
