Last week a pair of Jays came in to our back garden to eat from the feeders. I only managed to snap the one before they flew off.

Hello, all! I've enjoyed seeing all the birds that have been posted here! I thought I'd share a couple pictures of a flock of about twenty-five Cedar Waxwings I saw in my neck of the woods last weekend. I've never seen them before--their behavior is a delight. They pass berries back and forth between them until one of them eats it.

Nice pics of the Cedar Waxwings. I have seen that berry passing behaviour before. Fun to watch.

I love cedar waxwings. They rarely appear here in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, USA, but when they pass through it is always a delight to see them. Those are excellent images and made my day.

Fascinating birds.

I see the "berry passing" is a recognised group behaviour...

"When the end of a twig holds a supply of berries that only one bird at a time can reach, members of a flock may line up along the twig and pass berries beak to beak down the line so that each bird gets a chance to eat"

Great waxwing pictures midquest!! They are so pretty, last year my son found a flegling to hold in the yard, they are really pretty too but have soft stripes along the front. In the winter we get large flocks of Bohemian Waxwings and once in a while a Ceder that didn't migrate will be among them. Ceders have just returned to our area this last week, I was wondering if they arrive late due to availability of berries..?
