I absolutely adore raccoons... I once had the opportunity to see a baby, and the owner let me gently tickle its hands... They were so soft!!! That's an absolutely beautiful photograph, so clear and vivid... Super job!!

So, it rained heavily for almost a full week or two (I can't even remember things anymore), and our house started leaking everywhere...
I did find some peace in my heart when this fella and some others showed up. They found shelter below the external staircase, and chirped happily right outside of our bedroom window in the morning. At dawn, they'd huddle up and silently sleep away.. Absolutely adorable! This young dude was right outside our front door when I opened it, so I got my old (and broken) digital camera and took some shots. Lovely little bird

That is indeed an adorable juvenile magpie! Seeing it outside my door would bring peace to my heart, too. Thanks for sharing that cute 까치.

That would be nice to see outside your door. Good pics.
Looks kind of like a barn swallow.

Mystery Bird and Mushrooms
This bird has been at the back garden feeder for the past month or so, usually hanging out with cardinals. Looks like a scruffy, molting cardinal, but can anyone positively identify?
Also, a crop of beautiful mushrooms has sprung up in our front yard amidst the straw put down over grass seed. I don't know from mushrooms, but it looks like the images of the edible horse mushroom (Agaricus arvensis) in my mushroom book. Any ideas? Don |

I had one of those this year, too. I just chalked it up to being a scruffy cardinal (or sick), but if you had one, too, it makes me wonder.
As far as mushrooms, I only do morels, so can't help you there

Birthday Hawk Sp?
While Lil and I were eating my Birthday Brunch on our sunroom, this hawk came to visit, perching on the rail fence.
Hasty snapshot through a (still) dirty window = poor image, but perhaps I can get a positive i.d. from Glen or someone. Juvenile Sharpie? Common here and has the streaked breast and barred tail but maybe too big (my calibrated eyeball sez the creature was 20-24 inches long) and the facial markings don't look quite right to me. Juvenile Cooper? Same as above, but the size is closer. Adult Northern Harrier? Rare but they do show up here from time to time in the late summer, fall, and winter. I sighted one a week ago. It's the right size, has the streaked breast and barred tail, and the face markings look correct, but perhaps it would be too good to be true. Also, the speckled mantle causes me to wonder - doesn't fit any of the above. What do you all think? Don |

My guess would be a juvenile Cooper's Hawk.
It is nice when one of those kind of birds visit. I can tell around here when one is in the area. All of the small birds hide in the bushes and make a particular sound. Three times over the years a hawk has taken a bird not more than 20 feet from me. Nothing gentle about it.

That would be my bet too, yesterday we had a Merlin perch nearby but it's tiny to get a shot of, am excited to have seen it this well, they usually bomb through the neighborhoods in the winter rarely see them perched.
