Very lucky yesterday while walking, saw a Pygmy Owl in a leafless tree, took some picks from a ways away then got a bit closer, the main fear of the little winter birds, that and the Sharp shinned.

Nice owl picture. Those things are small.

That second image is really a great shot.
How big (or small) are those Pygmey Owls Glen? |

Although Northern Pygmy Owls are not that rare, and likely live in our area, seeing one is not ever certain. They are very small, Mike, smaller than the famous Saw Whet from Rockefeller center Xmas tree. They are between an English sparrow and a bluebird in comparison, lots smaller than a Robin. I would think closest to a fat Song Sparrow..a ball of fluff with a poking out tail..
one of my favorites..

Excited to actually see some bluebirds today on my front lawn. They're supposed to be all over our township (we even had a motel called the Bluebird Inn), but I've never seen one in my neighborhood until today (over 35 years). I tried to take a picture with my phone from inside the house but the window and screens obscured it.

We've had bluebirds in or back yard off and on for the past couple of weeks. Very nice to see them.

Here are a White-breasted Nuthatch and an American Goldfinch at a birdfeeder behind my house.

I was quite surprised at my folks last time. They live in the country and birds that I expect to be migratory are showing up at their feeders regularly. Quite a number of yellow and purple finches, along with the normal cardinals, blue jays and sparrows.
I usually don't see gold finches and purple finches until early to mid-March. BTW, the owls have been quite vocal this past week

Had a visitor to the tree at the bottom of the garden today, looking for a tasty squirrel...
