My township actually had a motel named 'The Bluebird Inn' due to all the bluebirds. The funny thing is that in the thirty years I've lived here I've only seen one in my backyard (last summer). But go four miles northwest and they are much more visible.

Before he went to college, the neighbor boy and I used to do a lot of yard work in their yard (single mom with four kids). One day he was shocked to see this 'most beautiful bird' ... a cardinal. He would have been about 16 back then and had never seen a cardinal before. They moved there from the other side of town

We had a pretty day, with the ice fast melting, bringing some hungry birds and animals that seemed to enjoy it as much as we did.
The Goldeneyes were in rare form and close by right in the sunshine.

I see why you call them "Goldeneyes".
They show up nicely in the photos.

That's almost spooky. I'm not used to seeing animals with monochrome eyes like that

Thanks for the comments, it seemed like one of those special early spring days when everyone is getting out and around. I was lucky the goldeneyes were close up and a couple common mergansers

Some pretty birds are showing up with more bird migrants showing up every day, the swallows showed up before a nasty cold snowy week but now it really looks and feels like spring, with hibernated butterflies about and spring wildflowers and I saw an Orange Crowned Warbler, and today the first hummer!
Wood ducks show up early in the morning as the females look for nest holes, Loons just pass through, but they stay about a month before nesting somewhere north likely BC.

We don't have either of those duck species here.
I thought the first two might be mallards, but when the images are enlarged, they are clearly some other species of duck. The ones in the third and fourth images (with the orange eyes) are impressive. Nice to hear you are having some spring weather. We are still getting below normal temperatures in this part of the country.
