That's why...

That's why I'm not cranking as much papermodels out as I used to do...
In the beginning of this year my uncle John, (or Oom Jan in Dutch) wanted me to have his great collection of Meccano, he had no kids, and I'm the oldest nephew, so when he had to be hospitalized, I made him a bedside-table lamp of his own Meccano..
Everybody loved it, so kept making them , and contacted some shops here in Holland, they also were very enthusiastic .
It ended up in one of the most prestigest design shops in Holland; Piet Hein Eek in Eindhoven, and a couple of weeks ago there was the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven, with lots of displays and shows, after a week the buyer from Anthropologie Welcome to Anthropologie - Anthropologie.com contacted me, and they keep ordering...So my lamps will be available in the USA soon...
here's my facebook page about them; http://www.facebook.com/OomJanLampen

The skills and talents of this group are never ending.....

I'm not a member of FaceBook and can't see your page...........

What size are these? I'm guessing a meter or so?

Thanks for posting.

Having never heard of Meccano, looking at these remind me of an old building toy that was sold here in the states called an Erector Set. I spent many hours building stuff with them as a kid. They of course came with instructions for some projects (a powered Ferris Wheel comes to mind) but you could design and build your own. I don't even know if they are sold anymore, probably to many small parts that can be swallowed.

I've been following your lamp endeavor on Facebook for a while now. I've showed a whole bunch of people and they loved. it. I'm pretty sure that there is an Anthropologie here in town. I'll have to have a look. Hopefully they get some in stock.

That chandileer is awsome Billie. The others are nice too but I like this one best. My wife would like it too. That is a real compliment as she is sooooooo fussy.

Very clever Billie, and what a good job at finding the sweet spot in marketing. The Meccano gives just the right air of "do-it-yourself" blended with retro ...

Will be on the look out for them in Atlanta. Cheers

@ Burning Beard; Meccano was sold as Erector Sets in the US
@ Swampfox; The tallest I made was about 6ft, the smallest about 10 inches high
Well, Anthropologie has 175 shops, that'll keep me busy for a year just to put one in every shop but I don't know thats going to happen, but sofar it is a very welcome addition to my income ( I'm self employed)
My paper model skills come in very handy in making the customized boxes..
