English 50-gun ship

Around this time 30 years ago I was building frame of the wooden sailing ship as shown in the attached pictures. It took 6 months to build up to there. Then what happened was that cutting and sanding the frames day in, day out wore me out:( Since then, to date it went out of my mind but I recalled it after ordered the book on sailing ship which birder recommended.
My plan that I am envisioning now is that first read the book to familiarize myself with the sailing ship because my knowledge is limited only to the ship hull then cover up the hull with paper except for below water line – it is called “dock yard model” - and build it as paper model with wood frames:o

Oh, YuG, I hope you are just kidding about covering that with paper! Your framing looks fantastic! You should definitely post pictures of that over at modelshipworld.com.

Regards,

another suggestion is to only cover one side of the model with paper planks and leave the other framed side bare. It wouldn't be an official dockyard model but it would preserve the workmanship you have.

What Did Birder Recommend?

Hi YuG,

Beautiful frame model. I think that you're making the right decision. Best way is to make an educated decision...,

I was wondering which book Birder recommended?

Glen, 74! Generally speaking, 74 is stronger than 50 so in that case I must stay away from American water in order not to be beaten:D

Gil, the book birder recommended is "Historic Ship Models" by Wolfram zu Mondfeld

Today, quickly covered certain area with paper planks which I painted using Microsoft paint application.
It looks…….. :(:(:(

Strange But True

YuG,

Excellent recommendation. It is an invaluable reference for anyone interested in period ship models. Your 50 Gun model will be right at home...,

Best regards,
+Gil

P.S. Paper planking looks great. Have you thought about adding trenail patterns?
