I am not good at ID'ing insects, but I saw this one in the bush the other day on some reeds and it was really colourful.

Getting ready for bed last night and had a visitor show up. That got me wide awake again. Caught him in a jar, then this morning took him across the road and let him out by the flood control channel. Desert Tarantula (Aphonpelma chalcodes) male. Had another small scorpion in the house yesterday morning. Sorry not as friendly with them, especially since my foot was still swollen and really painful from getting stung by at least a couple of pavement ants Friday morning. Still tender and a knot were one of the stings was, but looks like I can bypass showing up at the doctor's office.

Spider!
 Those tarantulas are kind of nice to have around for pest control. But ya gotta look out. I stayed with some friend in Medicine Park, Oklahoma back in the mid 1960's. The legs of the beds were standing in coffee cans. I asked why and they explained it was to help keep the scorpions out of the beds. I do not know if that was a viable procedure or was just some folklore, but it sure made for an interesting few nights.

The old metal coffee cans might be slick enough that a scorpion couldn't climb them, but wouldn't want to bet on it. Now put about a inch of diatomaceous earth in them I might buy off on that.
Had to look up Medicine Park, by Mt Scott and the wildlife preserve. Know I've been by it since we used to go over to Lawton and Duncan some. Would usually take a side trip to Mt Scott or to check out the buffalo herd.

I remember that being done to keep safari ants and other creepiest off beds in Central Africa. Used to sprinkle DDT powder inside the tins.
Then in Southern Africa, you had better raise the bed on bricks to escape the evil clutches (and maybe even an early death) due to tokolosh's. These are small hairy malevolent dwarfs, with evil intentions.

Another visitor tonight. Ratsie Katsie starting freaking out and jumped up on the bookcase behind my work desk. Finally turned around to see what she was tracking and surprise. Tried to capture it in a bottle so I could release it outside, but it went down behind the bookcase. Got caught on one of the scorpion glue boards. So at least got it out and without Ratsie getting bit by it. It was about 5 inches long. Common Desert Centipede (Scolopendra polymorpha). Now get the pulse rate and blood pressure down so I can go to bed.
