This is an older Pyro kit from the 60's that I did a few years ago. After I assemble the main parts, I sprayed with flat Humbrol white.. let it sit and cure for about a week, and then started applying layers of yellow ocher oil paint.. wiping it down with a soft cloth in between coats until I sort of got the look I wanted (an old ivory finish).. All the silver and gold work is in enamels. For an oldie, I was pretty pleased with how it came out.

Great job on an interesting old kit Peter. The original gun exists somewhere in a museum collection, I have seen a couple of pictures of it in one of my old NRA books, yours looks in much better shape.

Great job, I remember they had a whole series of antique firearms. If the tooling still exists with Lindberg/Hawk (whoever owns the stuff now) it probably would be too politically incorrect to reissue. Plus isn't there some kind of regulations now on replicas, especially ones close to actual size??

Yes, there was a whole series. Not sure about the legalities, but you can still find these on Ebay for a reasonable price.

While in some countries these would land you in a whole heap of trouble with local authorities, not to mention get you on the wrong end of some of the "real" variety, they are an interesting way to be able to have some inexpensive (compared to what the real ones would cost you) wallhangers.

Of course, living here in the wild west as I do, I much prefer the real deal, nothing like getting all smudged up with some black powder as you blaze away at some offending paper targets downrange. Besides, it does give you a greater appreciation of having to stuff powder and ball down the front and touch off a chunk of flint and steel or a percussion cap and enjoy the thump when you let her rip.:D
