AT-ST - from paper card to costume
Here's a project I'm currently working on. I'm using Shunichi Makino's excellent AT-ST card plans from here: AT-ST and then scaling them up to a size that will fit my 9 year old. And me
Of course I need to make a few of my own special modifications to the card model to fit a person. You can see my whole album here: AT-ST Costume |

Hehehe! That's cool! Are you attempting to join the feet of the model and your kid's so that it really walks?

Update - working on the legs
Here is my continued work on the large AT-ST walker costume for my kids. I've been constructing one of the legs. Since my kids are short for the thing, I have to make some modifications. This whole costume is a scaled up version of a paper card model found here: AT-ST

I know you have already been thinking of how to attach the legs to the kids, when an idea struck me.
So I hope you don't mine if I put it out there for you because I know how kids play, and get in trouble, and fall.......(looks like their arms may not be a lot of help, so they would have to do some fancy foot work if they lost their balance.) Anyway; the idea is to use dog or cat safety collars. The ones that come unbuckled if the animal gets it's collar caught on some thing! They would be durable enough to strap around a shoe and be walked on, and come apart automatically freeing the leg if stressed by too quick of a movement. Cat collars are cheaper and come apart more easily, but are small. Just thought it might save the costume, I mean kids...of course, save the kids. Rocky |

Major update! sorry for delay

UPDATE! Update! Almost done with the walker. I put an MFD (Multi-functional display) in the cockpit which is actually the kids Android Tab 2 tablet they play their games on. It's camera looks out the viewport and they can see quite well that way. Whoever is in it can actually see out better more so than through the two "eye" windows up front. Of course they can peek up through the hatch as well. I just have to paint and detail the torso and legs tonight. Cutting it close! It has to be done tonight all the way. My youngest son is a bit too small for the whole walker, but he can wear the head by itself, so he still gets to enjoy it. Keep in mind that I had to reduce the size of the walker legs from the original plans considerably so that my kids could actually wear it. But if I or my wife wears it, the legs actually stretch out nicely and it would look closer to the real thing with an adult. For kids, it's more in "crouching" mode. |
