Russia allows its Progress re-supply ships to be filled with ISS garbage when they are done with them and burn up upon entering Earth atmosphere just like their first space station, Mir. I guess it’s their way.

Interesting stuff... thanks for posting...

That's how they get rid of all the garbage on ISS... it's the only way, basically. They were doing the same with the OSC Cygnus spacecraft as well.

That's why ISS needs constant resupply, and a constant getting rid of garbage... Astronauts only wear their clothes once in space... there is no "washateria" on board ISS. That's why they're constantly sending up new clothes and hence the old aphorism for cargo/resupplies for space stations "Tang, toilet paper, and T-shirts"... And of course all that stuff (well most of it) has packaging or becomes waste materials (old clothing) that is packed back into the spent modules which act as a trash dumpster, which then separates and burns up in the atmosphere upon reentry.

Thought they were using most of the resupply modules in this fashion... I guess now with actual downmass capability in the reusable Dragon spacecraft, they're returning as much of anything of value as they can...

Later! OL JR

With Russia now planning to split away from the ISS I was wondering what if any effect this will have on the Bigelow Expandable Activity Module? wc
