Vacuformer Fun

I've started on a build of a vacuformer. This first one will be a gift to a very dear and patient member of this forum who is also a great model designer.

I'm posting this to show that I have in fact made some progress on it and to see if anyone might be interested in purchasing one. I used the plans available in the download section of this forum as a guide to build the box. To save space for shipping and to make the build a bit easier I'm not going to build it with the hinged frame and handle for clamping the plastic heat shrink sheets. That way I can just build the clamping frame, add a frame rest to the box and call it done.

I hope to get that done within the next week or so. I should also probably test it. However if the intended recipient wants to do that part I might want to concentrate on building a second one for myself.

Hope you like it.

Curt

I built a simple vac-box a while back, about the same as your, just a hole in end to put vac hose in...works good. The plastic sheet frame is 1/8 ply with some 3/16 studs and wing nuts, used 1/4X1/2 foam tape for a good seal when I use it.......Rich

I've been thinking about building one of these myself. I want to make some 1/12 scale cars to use with 6 inch action figures. I bought one 1/12 car kit but they are expensive. I bid on a 1/12 1937 Cord kit but figure on getting outbid. I've got a Shadow Cab toy that I'd like to duplicate so I can make some customs.

I've been interested in one of these for years!

I'll be watching this instruction thread, for sure!

Here are some additional photos. The vacuformer is complete and now it needs to be tested. I'm going to make a couple of plugs, one for a P-51 canopy and one for a P-47.

I'll show the process here in case anyone can benefit from it. I'm starting by gluing the canopy templates to some clear plastic from a salad container. After I get the canopies constructed with the plastic I'll use them to form the mold plugs.
