Moon shots

Here are some of the shots I got, had some light clouds move in, not bad but just enough to foul things up

Great shots. I think someone else already asked, but what settings do you use? I have a Canon Rebel too with a 70-300 mm non-IS lens, but try as I might I could not get shots as good as yours. Your practice pictures were especially good.

Thanks Phil, I don't really do anything special, my ISO is 800, and I try to keep my shutter speed around 1/200 at F 5:6 - 8, for more depth I will go to as much as 1.5 seconds at F 14 - F 22, anything much longer and the movement of the moon starts to mess thing up. I do use a heavy tripod and a remote shutter release for most shots. The lunar eclipse pictures started out good until some light clouds moved in so I was pretty disappointed in the blood moon shots.

What are your camera setting?

Great photos.

Isaac
Thanks Issac, I shot these at 250 mm, ISO 800, F 5.6 to F 8 at about 1/200 down to 1/30 I bracket my shots +1 stop and -one stop minimum. I use a heavy tripod and a remote shutter release. I do not use electronic zoom, I do not like the results. I usually crop my photos to 4 X 6 or 8 X 10. Years ago I came up with a homemade lens of about 5000 mm it was totally useless for anything except moon pictures but it worked great for that. When I went to digital I gave all my film camera and darkroom stuff to my daughter.

I tried some of the same setting and could not get my camera to take a picture.

I have a sturdy tri pod, when I set ISO to greater than 100, the pics went mushy on my.

Also, at 300 mm zoom the moon looked small

I will experiment again.

Thanks

Isaac
