A 2-8-4 goes into the grade on the approach to a steep hill.

A very quiet thread.

Something more modern - a locally developed Overhead Maintenance Vehicle (OMV) used for work on overhead catenary and contact wires.

Interesting vehicle! Head-on view of the Berkshire(s?) is great, too.

Taken in the harsh midday light, here are 3 Class 18E Diesel Electrics.

A local design, they are very powerful locos and are the mainstay of heavy freight movement in South Africa.

Most of the lead locomotives now have armoured cabs - here the loco on the right has the armoured cab. While you can not really see the cab Armour-Glass, the armoured door can clearly be seen.

And I have no idea why the loco at the back appears to be riding higher than the others!

Great image, Kevin. If you are inclined to post the recent images in our "Don and Kevin" drive, I would be happy to jigsaw-puzzle-ize them.

Don't think I've posted these. Taken in Indio, CA 2011-02-26. A couple of GE ET-44s and a EMD SD90.
