Here's a depot from Melrose, NM. It looked empty but still in good shape. Don't know if BNSF or the town is keeping it up.

Best info I found said it was built by Santa Fe in 1907 and is currently used by BNSF section gangs.
I couldn't find any proof in just a quick search, but I'd guess it hasn't been too long since Amtrak was using it. Class 1 freight carriers don't typically spend money to keep up infrastructure with such a limited use as section gang equipment storage. I'm sure the dry climate contributes to slowing it's deterioration too. Let's hope it stays! |

Looked at the photos again and it looks like a functioning window ac and live junction boxes including a security alarm. Wonder if it might also be used as a bunk house. Long ways between hotels out there like Ft Sumner to the east and Soccorro west or up north to Santa Rosa on I-40. If it wasn't in use randomly that ac unit would be long gone and anything else the tweakers could strip.

That's a very impressive engine Wayne.
I am always impressed at the huge size of your locos - ours here (running on what you would consider to be narrow gauge track) are tiny by comparison! The station photos were interesting. Like the styling especially....

Big country with long stretches of mostly nothing encourages building'em big.
Here's another similar design Santa Fe depot that has been appropriately repurposed plus a couple of rail crossings. As long as we're in Clovis might as well check out some rock and roll history. Train coming in from the west by Cannon Air Force Base. |

I enjoyed the images of the Santa Fe 2-10-4 Texas and the Norfolk Southern Dash 9-40CW (9930) in between the two Santa Fe BNSF locos wearing the old Santa Fe war bonnet livery.
Norfolk Southern is our local railroad here in Central Pennsylvania, running on former Pennsy and Western Maryland trackage. No war bonnets! Would be interesting to hear how 9930 ended up way out west. Don |

SF and now BNSF lease a lot of power. Especially in OK and TX I've seen a lot of Norfolk Southern and KCS and even occasionally a Canadian Pacific unit.
