That really is a good find and an absolute mine of info for someone into trains in general, rolling stock and motive power in particular, a great reference work.

That baby is so new you can see the gloss in the paint. Bet that gloss won't last past the upcoming summer!

Excellent images, Wayne. Is the second loco in the same color scheme, but faded?

Thanks Don, Yes it is, didn't realize how faded the other units were until this newly painted one showed up. Oranges, reds and maroons tend to fade quickly here in AZ. Was out for a little walk this morning and could see the 2 of them across the valley switching at the smelter and putting the daily train together.

Santa Fe Tehachapi Loop

Was going through some old albums of NASCAR races. My racing buddy and I used to make most of the West Series races at Mesa Marin east of Bakersfield. He's a big time model railroader and railfan, so we usually swung by Tehachapi on way back to Orange County. Here's a couple from August 1989. Coming up the loop headed west bound and the lead engine a GE C30-7. Small world note: was looking up the number to get the correct model and the lead photo was taken by a mutual friend of ours who use to run 'The Little Depot' at Hobby City in Anaheim.

Great Santa Fe images!

Brings back memories of the first film that I can remember seeing (The Harvey Girls, 1946) and the Johnny Mercer song: "All aboard for California, hey! . . On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe!"

I would run my little toy locomotive (which happened to be a Pennsylvania T-1 that I had received in my St. Nicholas Day stocking) along the rail of our back porch and sing those words to myself.

Digging through the albums again looking for something else and found this photo. Heading west out of Deming, New Mexico around 8am in November 1991. Another photo there was a photo of a AZ Highway Patrol car with a truck pulled over were I was waiting for him to write my ticket for 60mph; this was went the Federal speed limit had been put at 55. Cue up Sammy Hagar doing 'I Can't Drive 55'. Only speeding ticket I ever got. Always a few glitches in the good memories.

Okay, so the speeding ticket was not so fun, but finding connection to photographer of that one GE was pretty cool!
