Been a long time since I posted anything here and long time since I've been out with the camera so here's a couple from November last year. Southwest Airlines coming into Sky Harbor from west.

June 2018 C-46 Commando T/O Video

I've uploaded a video of a C-46 Commando Taking Off at the local Kenai Airport. (PAEN). You can hear the engines roar.

Friend flew up from New Jersey to visit.

Mike - very nice!

Here's a pic I took - a strange visitor on a hot and hazy day. I didn't pick up the registration number and cannot see it on the pics. The nose lettering on the stripe says "IL-76T" - so I guess that's what it is.

Could it be an ex-military, looking at the nose?

The "T" is for transport.
The forward fuselage is standard for the IL-76, if memory remembers correctly.

Thanks Ray.

Here is a profile pic I took - forgot to put this on as well. Have a look at the tail area on this and let me know what you think... Despite being labelled "T", it does not seem to be the pointy "T" version tail to me. A "T" version converted from something else? Or something else pretending to be a "T" version?

There is also a painted out circle on the fin, as well as the remains of a serial number on the fin - any ideas on this?

I've been looking for your IL-76, Kevin. No joy so far. The closest I have come is the Arcus-Air (Germany, now defunct) bird with a plain tail and a similar, if not identical cheat line. https://www.arcus-air.com/cargo-fleet/50-tonnes/ilyushin-il76/

Reem Air (Kyrgyzstan, now defunct) similar https://www.airplane-pictures.net/ph...76-all-models/

Haven't been able to find one with a disk on the tail in that location.

Uzbekistan Airways flew Il-76s with a disk on the vertical stabilizer, but too big, and the wrong livery. Uzbekistan Airways is selling its IL-76 aircrafts - Tashkent Times Was originally called "Samarkand Airways," which I thought was a wonderful romantic name for an airline - "The golden road to Samarkand . . ."

Hope someone can come up with the answer.

Don

Thank you Don. It remains a puzzle to me.

The tail still looks pretty military to me, but I am a bit clueless with these aircraft.

I have been busy searching African paint schemes, with little success.

Lots of ex-military cargo birds have found their way into civilian air lines.

To my untutored eye, the tails on the three civil Il-76s I posted look pretty much the same as the tail on the subject of your images. But this is not one of my areas of knowledge.

I have searched all over the internet and the "T" (cargo) versions all have a sharp tail in every photo I can find. See pics 1 and 2 - harder to see, Don, in the pics you reference.

The military versions carry a turret and have a different tail. See pics 3 and 4.

Pic 5 shows the blown up tail from my pic.

Clearly labeled a "T" but not with the right tail. I cannot find a "T" version on the Internet like this. I doubt it is unique, which is why I was wondering if it is a military version with a "T" painted on it!

But at this stage I give up! Hopefully there is an expert here with an answer...

I see the difference in the tail. Thanks.

Hope you can solve the puzzle some day.
