Your Aircraft, Glider Balloon Pics - Anything real, military or civil, that flies!

Took a couple of pics the other day when I wasn't busy and wanted to share these - but hunt as I could I cannot find any one place where aircraft pictures are posted. And again there lots of good pics across the Forum, but buried all over the place.

So, for those of you who like planes and things that fly here's a thread for YOUR pictures..

Hopefully the real thing will inspire you to build that model, mod that model or give you an alternative colour scheme for that model.

I've posted a bunch in the Museum and Shows section; but do have the miscellaneous 1's and 2's from other groups. Such as this Southwest Airlines 737 coming into Sky Harbor for a landing. Was down at the Rio Salado riparian area doing some bird watching and hiking; but its also pretty much under the landing path for the south runway. So it means some time I get more photos of metal birds then of feathered ones.

Or coming back from Seattle a few years ago while I hanging out at the airport for my flight to board saw this really neat DHC-8 with anniversary livery.

Wayne - I had a feeling you would be the first to post here! Great pictures - especially like the Horizon Anniversary paint scheme.

So here are the couple of pictures I took during a break. I hope they will be of interest.

Picture 1 and 2 - Atlas Oryx. Basically an upgraded and remanufactured version of the Aerospatiale Puma - pretty much the same now as the Eurocopter Super Puma. Up-engined, tropical dust filters, carbon-composite structure, a longer tail boom etc. The white colour scheme is ex use in the peacekeeping role in the DRC, Sudan etc.

Picture 3 - A row of Oryx in the operational hanger.

Picture 4 - An Oryx undergoing service. This shows off the engine nicely, as well as (from the covers) the length of the dust filters.

Picture 5 - Agusta A109 LUH, again in the operational hanger.

Picture 6 - A rare one here being towed back to the hanger! An Atlas Cheetah D2.

Nice photos Kevin.

Had been going through a box of old family photos that my dad had given me before he passed. Most are family members on the farm, but there's this one oddball mixed in. They look to all be from the same roll with the prints dated Jul 1954. Anybody have any idea were this is and what the airplane is?

As an addendum: if you get a bunch of old family photos get them id while the people that took them are still around. I was going to get around and do that with this box and never made it. Now have no idea who 90% of the people are, were most were taken, etc.

Wayne - this a real puzzler. At first thought I went Convair or Globemaster. But nope - it is isn't.

Appears to be high wing as well. Cockpit humped up. And if those are wings in place, where are the signs of the engine nacelles? There is a gap, but it looks small for a nacelle, and the aircraft looks like it would more likely have been four engined.

Not a glider? Don't think so either.....

Conundrum of the year......

Finally the brain connected: from Pima Air Museum - Budd RB-1 Conestoga and supposedly this is all that exists. So if this is it were was the photo taken and this looks more complete then the one at Pima now. The photos could have been taken by my aunt and uncle when there came back on vacation. At the time I think he was still in the Air Force and stationed at Beale I think. I know they lived in Yuba City which is really close to there and I don't think he was at McClelland. So was something he just took to finish the roll?

That's it for sure. I have just spent a fruitless half hour trying to improve the picture quality.

Engine nacelle problem solved anyway - underslung. I was thinking of embedded in the leading edge as per a Dak for example.

Interesting that in the first picture it looks so much bigger.

It's definitely a Budd Conestoga, but Pima didn't open to the public until 1976, and was in a wide open field with a trailer for the office for years. Wikipedia does say a Conestoga used by Tucker Motor Company was abandoned at an airfield in Oakland, and Tucker folded around 1950. That might also be the one Pima has. Only 17 were built, and they had a reputation for crashing or burning.

Edit: Nope, the abandoned one in Oakland was scrapped according to research. Pima has a different one.

I found a site that lists what happened to each Conestoga
Budd RB-1 Conestoga

1 39292 NX41810 Later NC41810. To NSFC July 1945. Crashed in Fort Worth, Texas enroute from Augusta, Georgia to California, July 1945. Wreckage sold for $500 as a hamburger stand.

10 39301 NC45352 To NSFC July 1945. To Shell Oil, Ecuador as HC-SBH (or HC-SBG) August 1945. Withdrawn from use due to wing fatigue problems August 26, 1946.

11 39302 NC45353 To NSFC July 1945. Crashed near Alameda, New Mexico November 7, 1945. Pilot and copilot killed and flight mechanic severely injured.

14 39305 NC45356 To NSFC July 1945, renamed The Flying Tiger Line in 1947. May have been the aircraft damaged on landing at Los Angeles IAP and donated to the airport fire department.

15 39306 NC45357 To NSFC July 1945. May have been the aircraft that crashed into a graveyard at Detroit, Michigan August 25, 1945.

Conestoga sounds like summat a bit rare and interesting Aaron. When can we expect the model to appear then?

Now I guess I'm just gonna HAVE TO get a picture of the RAF Hercy Birds that regularly pass over my house for this Thread. Just to prove how low the buggers come over. I'm sure they pop over Snowden then aim at my chimney for the next leg before hanging a right towards Bala Lake ... where they play dambusters. Often in formation. Good job they don't use our church tower, as they'd probably hit it.

Oh the joys of livin' in a 'Low Fly Zone'. Noisy bassers don't half set the dogs off. At least the Alpha Jets and Hawks just frighten the dogs into cover, but they wee buggers is usually goin' too fast to catch with a camera.

I did some more digging myself and discovered the one turned into a hamburger stand in Ft Worth. If that was my dad's camera he was working for the Santa Fe by then and a lot of time was in the Ft. Worth-Dallas area. Ordinarily he never photographed stuff like that (more family snapshots), but if he had 1 shot left it may have been strange enough to have caught his eye. Or that 50-51 Olds Sedanette that's front and center may have been what he was shooting since he did have an eye for fast cars.
