Mike,

What you really want to do with those tires and aircraft is really this...

Wow, even if I was that good with a tail dragger, you won't see me doing that! Ever!

After the cross winds from yesterday, found enough excitement, on icy runway with full aileron and rudder deflection trying to maintain the center line on the left main. Once I determined I could maintain the centerline, slowly dropped the right, of course-the brake was locked up when it hit and talk about a ride, dry patch and then ice, just gave it more power and flew away.

Main reason why you do wheel landings, not three pointers when it is cross winds or gusty.

Isaac; High wing Cessna 175 highly modified. STOL wing, 180 HP, constant speed prop, tailwheel conversion, on 850 mains.

Once I get down to pick up the RV, have a PIC check ride to do, before insurance will cover it.

A former military test pilot has written a great syllabus on transition training, been reading through it to see what to expect.

Major issues deal with gross weight and CG.

Not something you want to overload or have an aft CG in! For sure not like a production airplane!

I plan to fly to the AHEC for the April 1, papermodels history. After reading the transition about gross weight and CG limits, needing to pare my baggage down to workable weight. Have 60 lbs of baggage max weight, already 25 lbs in survival gear required for return to Alaska.

Saturday March 25, 2017 Big Day

Yesterday, the 25th I finally met my RV.

After a few flights with an instructor, found an issue with the rudder pedals. We fixed it yesterday afternoon - Today, I should be able to finish my PIC (Pilot In Command) check ride.

The PIC check ride is needed to qualify for insurance.

After that I'm heading East. If everything goes right, I'll be doing a 22-state tour and a flight over Western Canada on my way back to Alaska (23rd state).

Looking forward to seeing you this Friday in Carlisle, Mike. Maybe we'll have a chance to go out to the Carlisle airport to see your airplane.

All: Mike and his son Chris will be stopping by here to participate in the "Military History Through Paper Modeling" event at the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center.

Hi Don,

Yes, looking forward to the meeting you, and everyone else.

Might be a little issue with making it: WEATHER, planned route takes me through, a couple of spots with tornado watches for the next couple of days. They also mention severe thunderstorms.

Hopefully the above will clear in time for our flight to the AHEC.

Thanks Isaac!

A little rusty on the controls after 20+ years of not flying. Took 5 hours of CFI dual to get my PIC check ride completed.

RV-6 is sweet flying airplane! VFR only however.
