Excellent plane - I see it also runs on alcohol!

With the right template, tires from aluminum are a relatively easy endeavor. I learned to make mine from studying various simple paper kits, such as FG models. I can't speak for papermate, but personally, I use a black can to produce my tires. Pepsi Zero sugar makes the perfect can for tires, props, unit markings and even windows IMO....

Gman, you’re right. I didn’t use other cans coz I just wanted to use only Skol cans. The props and undercarriage are the reverse side of the can.

BTW, I have used black coloured soda can strips to do the props, spin hubs and wheels on Dash 8, too.
May be the Dash 8 should be re-named "Composite Dash 8".

No.8 Bede BD-5J Microjet, 1/33, enlarged from 1/23, Murph's Oddball Collection

No.8 in this series of soda/beer can plane is Bede BD-5J Microjet, originally 1/23, now at 1/33, from Murph's oddball collection. The can is from Korea, a kind of chocolate drink featuring Japanese cartoon character Doreamon. I got the cans while in Seoul last week and intended to give it to a sick boy, just turned 7 a month ago, who has stayed in hospital for almost a year suffering from flu that developed to encephalitis. He loves Doreamon and after serious consideration that he has too many toys already, I decide that he gets the pictures only while I keep the physical model.

I've worked with some crazy regional cans in my 20+ years, but that can takes the cake...

Yeah, the Doreamon is some cake. Take a look at the Doreamon can against a regular beer can. I pickuped some 33 cans (all they had at the time) from a basement supermart in Seoul and wasted some 30 down the wash basin in the hotel cos' the drink is kid stuff and too sweet for me. Cost, 700 won each and totalling less than USD25 in all. Good stuff for me. And since then I've been looking around for special soda and beer cans!

The lack of can surface makes it an equally unique challenge to work with. Don't feel bad, I pretty much dump everything I buy out in the back onto my Manzanita tree. I'm sure by now the tree is either an alcoholic or a diabetic, take your pick...

No.9 Ryan L-17 Navion, 1/33, originally 1/23, Murph's Models

The next to appear is the Ryan L-17 Navion. designed by Murphy, originally at 1/23, but now reduced to 1/33 to tie in with the rest of my 1/33 collection of single-engined planes.

As there are no formers nor wing spar, the main wings, when attached to the wing fairings and then to the fuselage, some what become a little warped. It's my build skills problem for sure. Anyway I can and have to live with that. On the whole, given some paint job on the windscreen and pax windows and the anti-glare flat black patch on the nose section, the Navion looks impressive, doesn't it?

Another handsome bird. I imagine you prefer the models that don't have petals
